In May 2010, I was diagnosed with invasive DCIS by a digital mammogram. The lump was 1.7 cm. On June 23, 2010, I had a lumpectomy after another mammogram and breast biopsy. The surgeon removed 3 cm of lump and tissue plus essential lymph nodes. The initial pathology during surgery came back clear margins. My health provider is the VA hospital (not too many female patients there). I have an appointment next week with oncology and radiation. My questions are many.

I had my post-op surgery visit yesterday.  The surgeon said that he got an 8mm clearance and no involvement of any of the four lymph nodes he removed. I see the oncologist on the 23rd.  What can I expect from that visit?

Guess I am just very scared and need some reassurance that I am not alone. Any advice or information will be greatly appreciated.

Dianna....You are not alone.

I can tell you from my experience usually they start with blood work followed by scans.

The treatment plan according to your ER PR HER+ status.

hello sisters , I was stage1a , her2 positive. Tumor was 5mm invasive and 1,5 cm dcis.

I didn't get any bloodwork or scans. They did the lumpectomy.

Your surgeon should have gotten ER and PR status from the biopsy. The HER2 status takes a bit longer. Might want to ask him about those three.

Then came radiation (although normally a visit w/ medical oncologist to be sure that chemo isn't needed would come first).
