has anyone ever had, or bought their prosthetics form new attitude?  they sound very good, but i was just wondering about the cost.  i live in canada and the government covers a certain portion of the cost per/prosthetic and my husband's plan supposedly picks up over and above.  not sure which way to go, but pretty confident that i do not want reconstruction.

thanks for your help.

Hi, Jackie.   I am considering custom-made mastectomy prostheses  for after my bilateral preventative mastectomy.         I have made e-mail contact with a fitter/shop owner. She has one location in Canada and one in Rochester NY.    she is a graduate of the school of medical aesthetics in Canada.  The first step would be to be "fit" for a clay impression.

When I realized that the school trains artists into prosthesis-makers, I recognized that this is what I would want. Like you, I am not opting for reconstruction. These custom=made prostheses are quite cost-prohibitive.   My primare insurance would cover mass-manufactured external breast forms and bras with inserts. but they deny coverage for custom-made breast prosthesis.      This makes me angry b/c insurance company is making decision for women as to what we need when we lose part of our bodies. Burn victims and people with missing limbs both qualify for custom-made prostheses. Undoubtedly, they  should be eligible for such a service; but how was the decision made that women who lost their breast(s) do not qualify?    Some male CEO's??              I was quoted $3500 price with no insurance re-imbursement.           I need to look into my secondary insurer, but they seem to all make decisions based on the same code.          The prostheses look "real" b/c they  match-up to the person's skin color, freckling.   and they are made to interface perfectly with the countour of my chest after I heal totally from mastectomy.           I'll keep fighting it.
