New microcalcifications 6 months after rads

Options

Help!  Just went in for my follow-up mammogram after radiation.  There is a group of microcalcifcations at the scar site -- and a biopsy is recommended.  The radiologist said 70% she thinks its cancer.  First I am trying to figure out why this number or percent -- and second how could this be so quick. I did not get through radiation easily -- I had pnemonia recently -- I do not think I can handle another thing. Does anyone have any thoughts on this or articles -- Any thoughts would help.  My biopsy is scheduled for the 12th.

    LM,

I had microcalcs at the scar site found the year after diagnosis. I was told that altho recurrence at the scar line is common, so are calcs from radiation and surgery induced necrosis and in fact they assumed it was not cancer. Had a surgical biopsy as the stereotactic couldn't get to them properly since my breast is misshapen. Ended up benign. They even told me I could watch for 6 months but I wanted them out. Glad I did or I would have been a basket case every six months for years.

I wish you the best for B9 results. Keep us posted.

PS - I think we may have the same last name based on your login name.

Annie thanks for your reply -- I am so hoping and praying that it is benign.  I'm worried and feel so overwhelmed that I may have another fight so soon after the first one.  They did not give me the option of waiting -- so worries me more.  I will let you know-- Yes -- that is my last name!  A fellow irish -- maybe jsut maybe I'll get the wind at my back!!!
