My grandma may have breast cancer again

Options

Hey everyone, my name is Stephanie and im 26 years old. When my grandma was 84 years old she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She did radiation and chemo for a while and then the cancer shrunk and they finally removed her left breast. She has been cancer free for about 6 years. Well my grandma is now 91 years old and went to a check up for her breast that was removed and they found another small lump. On thursday she went and had a biopsy done to see if it is cancer again and next thursday she will go and get the final results.  When my grandma was in recovery from having the biopsy the dr was talking to my mother (grandmas daughter in law) and he told my mom from what he just saw its a big possibility she may have breast cancer again but they will know the actual results next thursday. The reason im posting on here was because my grandma doesnt have the same healthy state she had when she was diagnosed the first time and im just concerned. Is it possible for a 91 year old  whose health isnt so good to get chemo and radiation again if shes diagnosed again or are there other options available. Sorry im not sure if this is the right forum to ask in either. Thank you

Hi, Stephanie ~ Looks like the boards are pretty quiet due to the holiday weekend, but let me try to answer your question, which will also bump this thread so that others will have a better chance of seeing it.

It's really hard to give you an opinion about your Grandma's situation at this point.  But it might be reassuring for you to know that there are oral hormonal drugs that can be as effective as chemotherapy that are often used when women have recurrences.  They fall into a class of drugs called Aromatese Inhibitors (A/I's), and they work very well for women with estrogen positive (ER+) breast cancer.   They do not have the side effects of chemotherapy drugs.  And, as far as radiation, I don't believe they would radiate the same breast a second time.

Hopefully, your Grandmother's new lump is benign -- maybe even scar tissue from her previous surgery.  I will pray for good biopsy results next Thursday.  Let us know what happens, and in the mean time, feel free to come here and talk  ~  Deanna

Don't agitation afore you know. It's harder not to anticipate about it because I've been in your place. pass4sure 642-165 It ability not even be cancer, it could be alot of things besides cancer, pass4sure 642-661 like a cyst or non-cancerous tumor. IF she does accept it, there are things that they can do like chemo and radiation. Also, mastectomy can be done if necessary. pass4sure 642-384 Just try to anticipate of the absolute until she gets a biopsy and the results
