Hello all...

Just had the BRCA test done today when I met with a genetic counselor.  She reviewed my family history and acessed my overall risks..geez...

I am the first in my HUGE Hispanic family to be diagnosed with BC, but my mom did pass away from ovarian cancer over 18 years ago.  There is no history of BC on either side of my family, but something to do with being Hispanic and mom having ovarian really upped my risks of develping BC in my other breast and getting ovarian cancer myself.

She seemed pretty sure that I should have results back in about a week. (which works out pretty well with me having my 2nd surgical consult.  Either way, it looks like I'll have the bi-lateral mastectomy due to the fact I may have a 2nd primary in my breast...UGH..

So now, I wait...DOUBLE UGH

Take care and God bless,

Tori

    Torigirl,

Sending you negative wishes for your BRCA testing results!!! Having a mom with ovca does make you high risk and glad you had genetic counseling. Any ovca in a family is often a red flag for genetic pre-disposition, especially under the age of 50. You may have your best interest in mind if you are considering a bilateral mastectomy, depending on your results as well.

Please visit www.facingourrisk.org for lots of information & tons of support for women like yourself who have a hereditary pre-disposition to breast/ovarian cancers. Be sure to explore the message boards too!! Keep us posted and let us know your results too!! Innocent
