Bio Oil
Hi ladies
Has anyone tried Bio Oil for scars? If so, did it make a difference?
Thanks!

I haven't tried bio oil, but I have scar tissue that never quits. I'm nearly 5 years out from surgery, and my scar tissue is still red, raised and itchy. I started using sesame oil on a regular basis. Then I discovered coconut oil and like it even better. I use coconut oil literally from head to toe. More recently I started using calendula oil just on my scars. They're finally flattening out.
I think the main thing that will benefit you is to get skin products without petroleum products. I don't know what I thought mineral oil was all my life, but I learned a while back that it's a petroleum product. That's when I started getting my skin products from the grocery instead of the pharmacy.

I am using it under the recommendation of my PS along with Mederma for stretch marks for my TE side. My scar isn't bad at all. I have only been using it for the last 3 weeks,in combination with Mederma but so far ok. I will keep you posted. I have heard good things.

Thanks so much ladies for the infor. - very interesting about the mineral oil - I didn't realize either. calendula oil - never tried that. I hope it gets better and better!!
I still have some surgery scars - plus recently I got a bad scald on the top of my hand. It's in the blister stage now but after it heals I was thinking of trying the Bio Oil.
Thanks Di - keep me posted

I just looked up the ingredient for the Bio Oil - It does contain Calendula but look at all the other ingredients at the very end - eek!! I just read another article about the benefits of Lavendar Oil on scars - I might just mix the two Calendaula and Lavendar only.
Ingredients Vitamin A

I am using bio oil. It was recommended to my by my physio at the breast health centre. Not sure how much it helps but it came recommended and smells nice, is not messy or expensive. Is also a good moisturizer.

No I have not used Bio Oil. I only ever considered using one thing on my skin while going through radiotherapy...and that is Rosehip oil. I went through four little bottles. I made sure my skin was clean prior to going in...then afterwards when l went into the changing rooms I applied it immediately all over my breast and armpit. I had it on 24/7. I did not blister or burn and l now have the very faintest surgical scar- you can barely see it. I finished rads 6 months ago. I've always had a bottle handy for wrinkle prevention and in case of an accidental burn on the home front. Been on it for years...as have my friends and family.

I think that the purist company [A'kin] make the most potent rosehip oil. I pay between $18-$22 AU ...depending on where I buy it. Goes along way and it's worth every penny. OMG there shampoos are to die for...l just love everything this company brings out.....soooooo luxurious and healthy for my/your skin.

I also drink rosehip tea, and take capsules/powder; it is one of the richest sources of vitamin C. I know that it is quite popular with arthritic sufferers as it used for relief of joint pain and rheumatism.
Rosehip oil...something to definitely keep an eye out for.

Thanks again
Let me know Bev how it goes

There are some studies that say Lavender acts as an estrogen...that it causes breast enlargement in young boys. You might want to google it before you use it.

Your right Luna - thanks for the reminder

I have breast cancer and have been rubbing bio oil on my scars from all my surgeries..is it safe?? Are the ingredients safe??
-
I WISH I could use Bio Oil. I bought it before my surgeries, planning on using it on my scars.
Unfortunately, the first time I was cleared to use it, I put some on, and my skin started itching so bad I had to take a shower and wash it all off with soap and water.
I learned two things: 1) I still have a LOT of feeling in the skin around my BMX scars; and 2) I am terribly allergic to some ingredient in Bio Oil
-
BioOil did not help me at all. I did not try Mederma because it has parabens. I am not trying anything at all right now. The scar on my prophylactic side is so bad that nothing short of cosmetic surgery is going to help it. The scar on my radiated side was very minimized by radiation.

I've used bio oil for years as a moisturizer. Since my mx I've been using it on my scar. I'm 4 weeks out of surgery and my scar looks great. Very soft and supple and hardly noticeable. Im using it 2-3 times a day and I was thinking of using it during rads as well but can't find any info on if its safe or not. I see RO on Feb 12, I will ask him then but if any of you find out can you post here as well?
Thanks -
shianne29,
Did you ask your RO about bio oil? I asked similar question from you on another thread?

Hello Victoria
your post was very helpful to me and i have gone to my health food store and bought rose hip supplements (6 per day for 6 weeks) and rose hip tea bags and rose hip oil for my scar. Having had surgery rather recently, I won't start using the oil on my scar for a couple of weeks, but I have put a few drops on my wrinkles around my eyes every day.... will update in a few weeks to see what the difference is... My biggest problem is aching joints, muscles and bones after exercise, as I am 2 years into a 5 year course of arimidex. Thanks again.

Rose hip oil works better than bio oil in my experience and is 100% natural
-
VIT E oil ( pure ) is the best thing I have even seen for scars .
-
I had area of right boobthat was harc and needed massage.
I used coconut oil and the bio oil randomly. Ontheareas thatgot the massage the most also had scar almost disappear. This was over sixmonth period between diep sx -
Hi Girls
I used arnica jell (totally natural) and the scar is now fine and silver. Massaging morning and night really helps too. I tried the bio oil first but I flared up with that for some reason. Every body is different and reacts differently but I think it's really important to do the massage.
-
I am a devotee of massage and use all natural carrier oils and essential oil blends and had great results with my scars.
I was told years ago, not to use Bio Oil, because of the questionable ingredients list.
This is a site that lists the ingredients in it and explains what they are.

gary null has said often that the acetate form of vitamin e should not be used. the tocoperol group is the variety that should be used. & a lot of plants contain coumarin. most cinnemons, tobacco as I recall, celery, other, (I forget).
