Hair story -- it finally happenened!
It was just a matter of time, really. I live in the city and went to sit on the benches outside of my building to do some knitting last night (we live on a major road). My 8 year old son comes running up to me, sits down and asks, "Mommy, did you forget something?" I asked him, "What do you mean?" He looks at me funny and says, "Um, your hair?" Sure enough, I was bald as the day I was born, happily knitting away in front of dozens of people! We laughed all the way back upstairs!

excellent.. bald is good .. why hide it?
-
Jackie - that is too funny. I am not as brave as Apple and am one of the ones who only have let a select group of people see me with no hair. The other day I opened the bedroom door to say something to my step-son and his friend and since I had just gotten out of the shower I forget that I didn't have my hair on. I apologized later but they both said they didn't notice. Maybe someday I will be brave enough to venture out into my backyard and pool with no hair and who knows after that where I may dare tread......

I love the story.........bald is beautiful!!

I love it that your son asked if you forgot something - lol! What a great story.

great story.
I went to to pick my dd up from school and straight to karate which is at school when I realized I had forgotten my hat. I had already given up the wig because it was just to hot here. All the kids loved it and thought it was neat. I was very embrassed but life goes on and a week later I gave up the hat.

no one would ever dare to go out bald.. we are. (ok, i do have hair at the moment, but i'll lose again).
it IS cool. Everytime I went out bald, people practically bowed at my feet. it is good for them to know that cancer is a reality for some.

I love it....why not go "naked" more often!!

It was really funny, and did make me think about going out with a shiny noggin all the time! My sister made a bunch of beautiful caps for me, though, and I really enjoy wearing them (one for every outfit!)
Like you all said, the kids think it is hilarious! (I am learning from them)

That's great!!!
I am post chemo and have dinner tonight with the in-laws. I am trying right now to be brave and go without a scarf tonight.
Yikes!
-
RegulJ: Hope everything went allright at dinner! If it as hot there as it is here, I am sure you felt fantastic!!

Dinner went well. The dining room was really empty so there weren't a lot of "eyes" on me. I found a few of the staff members staring a bit, however I stayed focused on the buffet (yum) and not on them.
Tomorrow I am going out again for my birthday dinner at a busier place. O.o
Double Yikes!

I never braved going out without a wig........But one day I was going into Lowe's to pick some things up and as I was walking towards the entrance in the parking lot.......a man and his maybe 6 year old son were coming out.......all of a sudden a burst of wind came and it blew off my wig and landed by my feet. I looked at the two of them.... picked up my wig....put it back on and continued to walk towards the store......Count on that I was part of dinner conversation that night with the boy.Jacqueline

I have stopped wearing a scarf. I had dinner out 2 nights in a row and left them at home. Although I did bring it with me and tied it around my neck instead.
I also ventured out today and did some shopping with no scarf and no hubby as a "buffer".

Nice thread to read. I did mostly wigs at work, and bald the rest of the time. Once I wore a wig to a party at my brother's house where lost of not close relatives (in-laws of bro who I love who had a bc daugher the yr before and who know me since I was a kid) but I liked being baldy. More comfortable. If I ever get dx Stage IV, I will search for a comfortable wig or hat because its one thing to be bald for 6-12 months, another to be bald forever. I dont' want my 7 yr old remembering me as bald at her special occasions unless I really can't stand the wig! As for work, I went bald when I know the honchos weren't in town. Got surprised once and it actually ended up better for me. Most people don't remember and the ones that do, think I'm a 'killer' saleperson! If they only knew the chemo fog I was in...
