Contrast Liquid??? Yuk Do I Have To??

Yuk, I have to drink 2 containters for my scan tomorrow.  I have such a hard time with this just trying to get it down.  Are there no other alternatives for a CT Scan?

Barb, I just had a bunch of tests a few weeks ago and I had to drink the stuff also, hated it.  I kept asking if they had Chardonnay flavor but had to settle for citrus.  AFTER I drank it I found out it can cause diaherra or constipation, kind of like all the treatments that we have, one or the other but no just normal.

I got through it and I know you will and I hope all you scans come out perfect.

I had CT when first diagnosed 2 years ago - had to drink contrast-laced banana smooth - horrible, ruined smoothies for me forever.  In February of this year, my doctor scheduled me for CT again (I had been having PET's but for some reason now am having CT's).  Sitting in the waiting room to be called back to get the horrid stuff, I happened to mention to the lady sitting next to me how much I disliked it.  She said that I should ask to have the contrast in either sprite or orange juice.  I opted for the sprite - didn't even let the nurse ask me what flavor smoothie I wanted - told her I wanted the sprite.  Since I had given up soda when I was diagnosed (not because it was bad, but because I figured drinking water was better for me if I was thirsty), the contrast-laden sprite didn't really taste too bad   Plus the volume I had to drink seemed to be much smaller than I remembered of the smoothie.

 Check to see if there are other options at the place where you are scanned - they never mentioned any options to me the first time, so I am so glad I struck up that conversation in the waiting room before the Feb scan - it's sprite for me from now on!

Chardonnay and Spite seem like excellent mixers.  I'm just not feelin the "rasberry smoothie" they gave me to drink
