Diagnostic Mammo Friday...Calcifications....scared
Well tomorrow is my 6 month follow up after a biopsy (b9) for calcifications. I can't get over how nervous I am. I have not had a "clear" mammo in close to 3 years now so you would think I'd be used to this. I am actually sick to my stomach.
I have been trying to find information or studies regarding calcifications and what percentage of them "change" after 6 months but could find nothing. I also have ALH which adds to the stress.
I am praying I am not headed for biopsy #4....
Anyone do the 6 month follow-up after a B9 biopsy? What were your results?
Sorry if I am being repetitive but I really have nobody to talk to about this.
Thank you.

Hi sweetie:
1. Call your GP and get a mild tranq to get you thru this.
2. Take a support person with you.
3. Most calcium deposits are B9!!!! (90%).
Now, not to say that they can't be cancerous, but if you have a b-9 biopsy only six months ago, this sounds merely like a good dr. ruling it out to be super safe.
Some calcifications can become cancerous over years....mine did, but I was very bad about not getting mammos. Hadn't had one for 4 years, and yeah, I did have cancer. All better tho
.
In your case, it really, truly, absolutely sounds like a benign follow up. If it helps, get an MRI also if you want to be super super sure. They'd have ordered that already if they thought it would help rule anything out.
Keep telling yourself :"It's only a follow up"....I know how scarey this is. I get literally catatonic, there are some of us that are more nervous than others. Hence the meds and get that nice support person to drive you, too.
Good luck, but it sounds like you'll be fine!

I too had calcifications that were clustering from the year before, my surgeon wanted to do an excisional biopsy - it came back ALH - I have very dense breasts which makes the mammograms hard to read. Did they suggest you take Tamoxifen for the ALH. My surgeon sent me to an oncologist and he wanted me to take Tamoxifen for 5 years. I was tired of the multiple biopsies and worry and didn't want to risk having side effects of Tamoxifen, so with my surgeon I opted to have a nipple/skin sparing masectomies. That was 6 weeks ago - totally happy and no worry.
I know there are different opinions out there, but my oncologist said that ALH was precancerous. With my family history and risk (40% chance of getting breast cancer) I think that's why he wanted me on Tamoxifen.
Praying yours turns out to be nothing and I didn't want to scare you, but you might ask about Tamoxifen - I think it is better to be proactive.
Hugs, Valerie

I am having my 6 month follow-up next week after B9 results. (Storma Fibrosis). I have ahd so many breast lumps, and procedures over the last 20 years. I am confused about calcifications. One doctor told me spots on my MRI lit up. Maybe that's what it was...I will be thinking about you!
