OK, I will try my best to post some recipes on the site that are close to traditional Indian cooking, but adjusted to be more healthy. I love Indian food Smile

The next few postings will be about American Thanksgiving foods, but I will be sure to get to the Indian recipes as soon as I can.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Lisa ! after a long gap .. I am doing fine. Nowadays I am cooking only vegetables .. I buy whatever fresh vegetables available in the market. I eat steam, boil and sometimes baked potatoes. Yesterday I brought huge quantity of spinach.. what I do  is just blanch  and grind it  and make soup with little bit  of cream and black pepper. Seems it was ok for me but no one likes it in my family as they want something  very hot and oily.

After last nights Dateline featuring Suzanne Somers, has anyone heard of Prevennia?  It was discovered at the Eppley Institute of Cancer Research by two award winning scientist.

Sneh: I am a tea drinker, both black and green. My favourite is Assam. Indian food is considered quite healthy by Andrew Weil MD. Some people are taking curry in pills in other parts of the world. I would love to learn to cook with it.

I don't eat any red meat and haven't for 20 years--well before I got BC. I do eat some fish. I would like to be totally vegetarian, but live in a big meat eating country so it's difficult. I enjoy fruits, veggies, breads, legumes, and do eat some soy. It's been nearly 9 years since BC. I try to eat foods in as close to their natural state as possible. Rarely eat anything fried, only an occasional dessert. A little dark chocolate every day.

I love to hike, but most days I do my walking around the city and in and out of the metro stations. Lots of steps. My weight is stable.

Prevennia is a pill that can be purchased in health food stores. If you are watching estrogen intake--such as avoiding soy--approach Prevennia with caution. Suzanne Somers' self-treatment is considered suspect to some. I believe in an interview she said she takes at least 100 pills a day.

I dont think  it is available in India. I have no problem with my estrogen intake. I take soya regularly  in the form  of  bean as it is plenty available here. I am scared of taking pills now. I am very cautious nowadays  after breast cancer strikes my life  and always consious about my food. I was told that many red meat eaters have become vegetarian. I appreciate  your  way of life going closure to natural that is very impressive.

I have looked at the prevennia claims and am currently doing research to see if it is a good direction to take.  Could Maya2 please expand on your comment " approach Prevennia with caution".  Would like to know specifically what about the product might be the issue...  Thank you in advance for the information.

Snehlata, good to hear from you :)

What kind of grains are most available where you live?

And do you use a crock pot or anything similar?

What types of food will your family eat besides Indian?

Hi Lisa! its too late  to answer  your queries , anyways  .. rice, barley, wheat, pulses in  many varieties are available plenty in my place. Our  staple food is rice besides  pulses , fish with varieties of  vegetables. I used to cook chicken  sometimes may be twice or thrice in a month as we prefer  vegetarian food cooked  in a traditional way  with less oil & spices etc.

I used only non-stick utensils for cooking  vegetables & pulses  besides an electric rice cooker.

Although I am an Indian  I belong to ethenic mongoloid  group called Meiteis. I like  chinese food as it is quite similar  to ours. I also like Pasta with cheese. I like smoke fish , fermented soy, boil/steam vegetables.
