I was recently told that I only need to have a mammogram, I had been getting MRI's for the last 3 years.   I'm curious to know how many of you just have mammograms and no ultrasound or MRI?

i have very dense breasts...my onc has ordered mammo and MRI 6 months apart the last 8 years. if there is anything in question..i always have an ultrasound.  however, this time around...after mammo/ultrasound my onc gave me the option of skipping the MRI.  so i am going to skip it.

I still do all three, but I am not sure how long they will continue doing that.

I have mammograms, with ultrasound at the same time if I can get the onc to order it, as I always feel like I've got more axillary lumps and it always hurts there.  I've never had an MRI, never had it suggested.  Does anybody know if a "breast  MRI" is different than a regular MRI?  Do they somehow shut off the "juice" to the rest of the body?

I am only 1 year out but had both and my original surgeon told me I will probably have to have MRIs for the rest of my life. I am sure my insurance company will say no go to that eventually.

I get tumor markers and a physical exam every 3 months and then just a mammo every 6 months.

In my case I had one breast MRI and they have you lay on your stomach and your boobs hang down an opening on the table.

I'm two and a half years out and do bloodwork with visit to onc for physical exam every 3 months but only do the mammogram once a year. I only did the MRI initially when I was diagnosed but that was pretty much it. I do have some calcium deposits in my other breast but they haven't changed at all in over 2 years so my doctor and breast surgeon aren't very concerned about doing an MRI on them.

I only get an annual mammogram and an annual CT for following up a pancreas lesion.

    Diagnosed Nov. 2007.

At about a year after my diagnosis, I returned for mammogram only.  My BS mentioned at the time that my next follow up with him (6 months later) would involve an MRI.

A question for Pat634----you said that you "get tumour markers"?????----would you mind elaborating a bit on this (have never heard of this)

    thanks
