Facial Numbness

Options

Again I am not quite sure where to put this...maybe there should be a forum called "Weird Symptoms".   I wake up in the morning and for several hours I am fine, then my chin area becomes numb and by the end of the day its pretty much the entire left side of my face.  I have bulging disks at C6 and C7 and had been through several neck traction treatments for that. In fact this began on and off since that traction started (it was since stopped in favor of ultra sound and deep tissue massage). But I went to one yoga class and tried keeping up with everyone else and now its a daily occurance (but I really am fine the first few hours of each day).   When I apply gentle pressure the back of my neck and top of the left shoulder I feel pain but otherwise just the sensation similar to when the novicane wears off after a trip to the dentist.  I can move my mouth, wink, etc at will

Has anyone had this before?

I'm reading that several different things could be causing the numb chin/jaw including: Mets of breast cancer, the fosomax and Boniva I was told to take a few months ago causing jaw bone death, etc.  I had tumor markers and a complete exam by Oncologist done on May 7th (this started May 25th) and for the first time in two years he talked about my getting my chemo port taken out.  I otherwise feel completely fine.

Sorry you are going through this!!!

I also had one-sided facial numbness and intermittent dizziness that started about 4 months after I finished chemo & rads.  Onco sent me to a neuro who ordered a spinal tap to rule out lepo mets (normal), brain scan (normal), and cervical MRI (showed bulging discs in neck).

The bulging discs were determined to be the cause, exacerbated by a combination of circumstances (including the desk height at a new job that had me hunching my shoulders and using my laptop in bed).

When I quit my job and stopped typing in bed, it went away & hasn't come back.

Here's a wish &  prayer that yours also turn out to be from your neck problems (scary what we wish for, aint it?!?!)

Thanks I do have discs out in my neck (and I believe in my mid back as well). The funny part is that once I stopped going for treatments the facial numbness stopped on its own. I still have a sensation that constantly reminds me something is wrong with the left side of my neck but I guess I'm actually better since all the rubbing, stretching, etc stopped. But I'm still guilty of using my laptop at the coffee table while I sit on the couch....I should stop doing that huh?Foot in mouth

This is exactly why I came on here today. I am newly diagnosed with IDC I will go to the Mayo Breast Clinic for the first time of my diagnosis on Thursday. The size is only 1.7cm the radiologist didn't like the looks of one of my lymph nodes and did a biopsy of that too and that was negative so I've been positive in my thinking that we only have the tumor to take care of.

For the past 5 months however I get intermittent numbness in my bottom left left lip. Didn't really happen too often so I wasn't too worried. This has now progressed to a metallic taste in my mouth and even numbness in my jaw and under my eye which has lasted 2 days now rather than the few minutes every few days as in the past.

Now reading about mets I am so scared. I was reading on here for reassurance that it's not related to my BC but it's only scaring me more.

I have had the numbness in my face, on left side of my head and face, on left side of face and arm...it keeps moving around.  I found that stress makes things worse.  I have tried all kinds of doctors and treatments to get some relief - some work some don't.  Probably the most useful thing I have found is acupunture, exercise, stress reduction (good luck!), and maybe even some nerve block and other injections.  But nothing is permanent fix.

Now I have numbess, tingling, and severe pain running down my right side.  The primary doc and chiro and PT all say it's sciatica...they all focus on treating the symptoms.  That's all well and good but I'd like to treat the root cause.

I now have a red, swollen, hard breast (the same one that had cancer) so I of course think of recurrence...  I think it is an infection and I have to deal with the pain of the hip to foot.  I'm so tired of each dr treating only a part of me!  I'm going to a naturopath tomorrow to see if I can get some relief by working on diet (anti-inflammatory foods), nutritional supplements, exercise.  That is of course, after I see the breast surgeon to see why the boobie is so hard and red.

yikes!  seems like it's one thing after the other doesn't it!

Yes I hear you ryjuem about being sick of doctors who treat a part of you.  We should have ONE doctor perscribing ALL of our medication so we know nothing will counteract the effects of anything else The only thing worse than side effects is having pills that counter act other pills.
