Concerned

Options

I am a 54 year old woman who was diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer in 2005.  At the time I had lumpectomy and radiation treatments.  Since then, all mammograms have been good.  After my surgery, I developed an infection in my breast from build up of fluid in the cavity of the surgery  They say it is a form of lymphadema - in the breast and under the arm. Beacause of the infection, I had to have the incision reopened and drained from the inside out.  It has left me with a terrible scare and much scare tissue inside the breast.  Recently I have developed pain in the area where the scare tissue has formed very densely.  Would this pain I am experiencing be from the scare tissue or should I be concerned that the cancer may have returned?  I was just recently at my oncologist office for my yearly checkup and the nurse practitioner said everything looked good.  That the pain was probably from all the scare tissue but since it doesn't go away - I am concerned.

papergirl, the pain could be from the truncal lymphedema. If you go to the lymphedema thread there are several wonderful women who can answer your question about pain and truncal lymphedema. Since the doctors think it is truncal lymphedema, I would ask for a referral to a qualified LE therapist.
