Am I Too Late for Radiation?

Yesterday I saw a radiation onc who "softly" recommended radiation, based on my margins. (This after several other doctors said absolutely not.)  I left without making a decision, and now am leaning in favor.  Of course, now it's the long weekend, and in my research I see they like to start rads within 6 weeks.  This wasn't mentioned at the appt.  I'm way past that--it will be three months since mx before I could start.  Am I too late for it to help???

Hello!  I have had 5 treatments and started 2 months after my surgery.  I had to wait for my mast to heal.

I started rads about 9 or 10 weeks after surgery.  I'd ask the rad onc what they think.

I had a lumpectomy in mid May last year and when I spoke with the radiologist and began to work on a schedule - I was trying to start radiation sooner rather than later so I could go on a kayaking trip at the end of July. I ultimately abandoned that idea, but the distinct impression I got was, 6 weeks is their preferred wait, not the maximum. I asked could the radiation wait til September (after a family wedding!)  and he said absolutely NOT. I believe he was adamant in my case because one of my margins was only 1.5 mm

Try to enjoy yourself this weekend and call the rad onc immediately on Tuesday!!

The radiation oncologist would have had your records in front of him/her when they gave you the advice.  I can't imagine any doctor would have advised you to do the "impossible" if that makes sense.  So radiation must be something that is still a possiblity, okay?
