Problems with Taxotere

Options

Hi Everyone

Just starting my second round of breast cancer treatment.  I was originally diagnosed in Sept/05 and had the usual, chemo, mastectomy, rads, herceptin and 4 out of the 5 years of Arimidex.  Was just re-diagnosed  May/10 with the same cancer in two lymph nodes below the collar bone, all else in body clear for now.  My problem is does anyone know if the chemo treatments are worse the second time around.  I am having Taxotere again for 6 cycles, have only had one so far, and the pain for the last 5 days in my legs has been incredible.  Also, what makes it worse is the fact that I now have thrush and a rash that started behind my ear and has spread down my neck and onto my chest.  The rash is red and has small bumps in it as well, stings, burns and is a bit itchy. Pretty sure it is NOT hives.  It also has begun in areas around the rectum and vaginal area.  Did not have this happen the first time around four years ago.   Any thoughts would be appreciated and what I can do for the itching, I don't want to get an infection.  Oh, and by the way the rash did not start until 6 days after the chemo.

I'm not an expert on Taxotere, but it sounds like you are having a reaction to it. I had a red flush on my face & neck that lasted several days but what you describe sounds worse than what I had. Did you call your doctor and tell them about the symptoms? You might try taking benedryl for the itching.  I had a bad reaction to my last CT/bone scan and had to take benedryl. Hope you figure it out.
