Breast Cancer treatment Stage 4

Options

Hi

My Mother is suffering with Breast Cancer (both sides). We stay in India and decided to take treatment in Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, mumbai. Here Drs after examining my mother and seeing that it has grown much in size deciced 1st to reduce the tumor by giving 6 cycles of Chemotherapy after every 21 days and proceed with surgery. now my Mother has finished taking all 6 cycles but now Drs said that treatment is over and just come regularly after 3 months for regular checkups.

I am worried that my Mother's treatment is not left incomplete. Also that w/o surgery Cancer is still thr in her body, so what are the chances of it growing to some other parts and what is to be done not to allow it grow further?

Please suggest wether the treatment given was correct and wht is to be nxt to prevent cancer to grow further and have my mother same as before healthy.

Blessmymom ~ I'm so sorry about your Mother, but glad to know that she has already completed a 6-cycle chemo regimen.  I wanted to suggest that you might want to re-post your question in the Stage 4 Forum here (click on Forum Index above to find it).  I know some doctors do not see a benefit in exposing a patient to surgery if the breast cancer has already escaped to another part of the body (which is what Stage 4 usually indicates), which is what an initial surgery is trying to prevent.  But the women who are Stage 4 tend to post primarily in that forum, and I know they will give you a lot more good information when they see your question.

I'm glad you've found BCO, and I will pray that your Mother gets the best of care ~   Deanna
