Favorite Quotations
Sometimes I read a quote from a book, or a poem, or a song, and I am so moved by it. I think it would be fun if we talked about some of our favorite quotes, passages, poems, and why we like them. I will start!
This, above all, to thine own self be true
For as it follows the night the day,
Thou shall not then be false to any man
Shakespeare, one of my dear mother's favorites!

I like "When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry - show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile". Don't know who wrote it. (and I'm not yet really proficient at applying it yet, I appear to be stuck in the "one hundred reasons to cry" stage. But I'm trying!)

"I am neither made nor unmade by actions surrounding me, but my reaction to them" Unknown.
And of course, my tag below my name.

Iodine, I always am inspired by your tag line--thanks!
I don't want to know your tribeI don't want to know your nationalityI don't want to know your religionI want to know the pain of your heart!

Hi "love"", what a beautiful quote you bring. Writing that one down.
and thanks for noting my tag line. I burst into tears when I saw him say that on the news, or whereever it was that I saw him say it. I knew it was meant for me and it didn't have anything to do with bc --- but was very helpful later when dx'd as well.

Gosh, I have so many.....how about
"The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places." Ernest Hemingway
and Longfellow......
"Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait."

I've been held together by the thought attributed to Churchill:
"When you're going thru hell, keep going."
-
here's a good Henry Kissinger one along the same line....
"The absence of alternatives clears the mind marvelously."

when you meet an orphan, treat him as your own child, and give comfort to the troubled and care to the sick. Never refuse any who asks for help, if your pockets are empty, give them hope...your every action must be born of kindness and every word spoken with love. Live as God would have you to live, and by your ex...ample, others will be inspired to do the same... (Our Lady of Kibeho said). Immaculee

"Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you." 4th Chapter of Philippines

thank you ruth, one of my favorites also!

My other favorite verse in the Bible is Romans 8: 38-39
"For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus out Lord."

Here's a few that I love:
Joshua 1:9 (NIV) Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged; for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
Jer 29:11 (NIV) "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
and the sweet little proverb:
Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly
I look forward to finishing my chemo and radiation and spreading my wings and and becoming a butterfly with a whole new lease on life!

Trust but few, and
always paddle your own canoe."

Gave my daughter a plaque: God Danced the Day You were Born. She has it by her bed. She gave the Christopher Robin quote to her brother and I had the same idea but didn't do it. Bless her (and my son, too)

As long as moods are like the weather, today's admiration may be tomorrow's annoyance and irritation. Today's love may be tomorrow's doubt. Human nature is not static, but fluid.

"Lean on the future. There
if anywhere
you walk upon the water,
All that was true at first
is true at last
but there is no way back
into the past.
But through the future. There
if anywhere
the miracle must happen."
