new microcalcifications after DCIS surgery

I was dx with DCIS last summer, had 2 surgeries plus rads.

Had follow-up last week and the radiologist discovered 2 more areas of microcalcifications.

Has this happened to anyone else?

My biopsy is this coming Wednesday. I know I'm in a high risk group and am worried that this could be more cancer. I know a woman who had cancer twice. Every time she went back for a follow-up they kept finding more things so she finally couldn't take it anymore and had a bmx.

I'd love to hear from anyone else who had subsequent problems after DCIS surgery. I thought the rads would have zapped all future problems. I don't understand how a radiated breast can still grow new microcalcifications.

Thanks if you can help.

Patricia------I'm sorry you are having to go thru this all over again. I see you also have LCIS in your signature line.  Your treatment (surgery and rads) was directed at the DCIS, but the LCIS puts both breasts at high risk for future invasive bc. Your new microcalcifications could be more areas of LCIS, or they could even be benign calcifications as well. Did they put you on tamoxifen after your radiation? Praying you get good news this time around.

    Thanks for responding Anne.

I opted out of tamoxifen but even if I had decided to take it I wouldn't have started it until Feb. '10 anyway. I'm sure these microcalcs were there before that, but who knows.

I know that 80% of biopsies turn out to be benign. Its just that I know I'm in a high risk category. My mother had bc as well, in addition to my previous cancer and precancer.

    Praying you stay cancer-free.
