mri result question
what does scattered grandular opacities mean??
Comments
-
Scattered- more than one and spread around
Grandular- think grains of rice
Opacities- opaque/ show up solid on the scan
= probably something that will be investigated further.

dr. said called and said my mri showed benign findings. MRi report said scattered gradular opacities-I am CONFUSED!

Do i need to be concerned about this? BIRADS was 2. I have an indentation that has been there for about 3-4 months now. I had an MRI 1.5 weeks ago and the above was what the report said.

I am new to all this and in July I will have my first MRI due to ADH being found with stereotatic biopsy in Feb. My mom has had breast cancer and is BRCA2+ along with 4 of her sister. I'm sure I will be confused too, so I will arm myself with the "well what does that mean", "please explain in my terms". I live in Houston and have been seen at MD Anderson for all my procedures. They are very good at explaining things if I don't understand or if my husband needs a better clarification. I would call your dr back and ask if they could explain for a better understanding of your dx and how to proceed with your care in the future.

The birad rate is good at #2. THe higher it is the more likely cancer. It goes to #6.

benign...be happy

I agree with Lisa. There are dozens of benign breast conditions that are of no concern at all. Most MRIs show something - few of us have perfect breasts with none of these benign conditions. So there is no inconsistency in your MRI being benign although the report indicated that something (scattered gradular opacities) also being seen.
Here is the definition of BIRADs 2: Category 2 / Benign Finding This is also a negative mammogram, but the interpreter may wish to describe a finding. Involuting, calcified fibroadenomas, multiple secretory calcifications, fat containing lesions such as oil cysts, lipomas, galactoceles, and mixed density hamartomas all have characteristic appearances, and may be labeled with confidence. The interpreter might wish to describe intramammary lymph nodes, implants, etc. while still concluding that there is no mammographic evidence of malignancy. http://www.birads.at/kategorien.html
I have fibrocystic breasts and have so many benign conditions that there is always a description of something when I have a mammo or MRI. As long as it's BIRADs 2, I don't worry.

Thank you for posting this link. This site is great to find everything in one place! Wishing my sister well on her MRI this week....mine was #4-5 on this list as a first screening ever, so be happy with your results! You dodged a bullet.
