I'm pre- menopausal and will likely be taking hormone therapy and chemotherapy. I really want to have my own child but I fear that I won't be able to after treatment.

Does anyone know if egg harvesting, fertilization, donor sperm etc. is covered by health care in BC, Canada?

Contact your local fertility clinic and speak directly with them (make an appointment to speak with them- it's probably best not to ask over the phone).  Or, you can get your doctor, specialist or nurse to call for you...You may be offered an exceptional gift.  I did, I'm in Ontario.  Normally it's not covered here, but they were generous to offer IVF to me for free!  I am so greatful!  I doesn't hurt to ask, they will understand.

    Good Luck!

I think the only place in Canada that it is covered by health care i believe is in Quebec! I am from Alberta and my private insurance covered 80% of the prescription cost ( can be anywhere from $2500-$5000). The IVF clinic I went to also has a "generations of hope" fertlity assistance program that can help pay for some of your medications as well. Usually to apply for it, both you and your significant other have to make less than something like $50,000 combined, but with our circumstance (me having cancer and having to do all this unexpectedly), they paid for our most expensive prescriptions ($1000.00). Their website is: http://www.generationsofhope.ca/apply.php  There are also other things you can do like let your Premier, MInister of Heath and Wellness, and your MLA know you support full coverage of IVF and other fertility treatment by sending them an email. I think there are other ways to obtain funding that you will have to research or ask your doctor or nurses or IVF clinic.

    Thanks for the info guys.

I went to a fertility clinic and they have a program where they will cover embryo cryopreservation costs for us but you must have a partner. For myself, I don't have the sperm available so I would have had to pay for donor sperm myself but the rest would have been free.

I opted not to do it however because it would have pushed my chemo back a month and I wasn't willing to do that.
