Need opinions on lumpectomy results

My friend was diagnosed with bi-lateral BC; 3mm DCIS in the left and 7mm ILC in the right. Both tumors appeared to be near the surface of the skin, near the areola. The surgeon did a lumpectomy on both, as well as a recision on both. He went clear to the chest wall; but still only had a narrow clear margin at the wall on the left.   She didn't get satisfactory answers from either the surgeon or the oncologist as to how a 3mm DCIS, located where it was, could have cells extending clear to the chest wall.   They both agreed because it was non-invasive, the narrow margin wouldn't present a problem. She'll have radiation and possibly chemo depending on the Oncotype DX results.   Any opinions would be appreciated.
