Met Ladies ? (bone density test)

Options

I'm getting to the end of my ( 5 years) on  Arimidex run and my Oncologist wants another bone density test my last  one was in 2006  after 1 year on the drug and I had mild  ostepenia.

I am not scared of the test itself but more so what they will find.(mets) as I was last time

Is there anyway that the bone density test could point to possible mets. I get myself so worked

up on this test as I did the 1st time I had it.

I do understand that it is mainly used to meaure the density of the bones. However could the result point to bone mets.

Since it is basically computer generated why does a Radiologist need to read the scan if they aren't looking for more than denisty????

Need some input    scananiety is going into overdrive

I think a radiologist reads it to take the various measurements to do the calculations.  I suppose the radiologist could notice some odd growths from mets, but a scan with a contract is needed to determine bone mets (bone scan, MRI).

The Bone density test is just that. I measures for any bone loss.

I had terrible arthritis in one hip and the bone density wasn't looking for anything other than density and there was no mention of the arthritis on the report.

    RELAX!

The bone density test is the easiest test out there. You don't even have to take off your clothes if there is no metal in your bra.

This test could not find mets even if they were looking. Simply the wrong scan. It is simply measuring the density of your bones. It is then evaluated against your previous scan to see if there have been any changes.

You have every right to be anxious whenever you want, but I think this test is a waste of perfectly good anxiety. :-)
