new soy research for ER+Pr+

Has anyone heard anything about this from their doctors?  Should we be eating soy, or avoiding soy, if we're ER+PR+?

Laurakay ~ Here's some rather compelling research a friend just sent me yesterday:

    http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstract/302/22/2437

At a recent app't. with the integrative specialist at UCLA, she advised that the only soy foods that should be avoided are soy isolates, which have been modified.  That's the kind of soy that's found in soy protein powder and many protein or energy bars.  She totally supports eating other forms of (natural) soy in moderation.

On the other hand, some very nutrition-savvy women on the Natural Girls thread here have expressed serious concerns about how soy is produced -- that it's basically a very toxic crop, and that some soy by-products or soy derivatives are especially heavily laden with toxic chemicals.

In the end, I think we each have to read up on it and decide for ourselves.    Deanna

I get organic, non-genetically modified tofu and tempeh at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods.

I need to look up the reference but there was some recent good news re: soy being potentially BENEFICIAL in preventing/delaying recurrence. Similar to others posting here I have heard repeatedly that soy isolate/soy protein isolate may be a problem. This is a highly processed food. Whole foods like organic tofu, tempeh, edemame, and soy milk are a different story. I have gone back to consuming these foods on a regular basis. Both Diana Dyer http://www.cancerrd.com/ and Meg Wolff - http://www.megwolff.com/  long term survivors of locally advanced breast cancer- have included soy foods in their diets for many years. Obviously these are only 2 women- not any proof that soy is safe for everyone but obviously it hasn't killed them.

I'm definitely enjoying having the soy foods back in my diet!
