I just started taking turmeric about a month ago. Starting at the same time I beagan having bad right side pains and indigestion... and have convinced myself something very bad has happened with my liver, I have an appt with my oncologist tomorrow. Now today I have just read that if you have gall bladder problems or bile problems you should not take turmeric. What if you have NO gall bladder? Mine was removed in 2000. Could the turmeric be what's been causing all my discomfort?

    Dear minxie,

The many articles the I have read on Turmeric, have stated that it is used for gallblader problems and actually helps to protect the liver.I will search for some of the articles I had saved. I did have gallbladder problems, but no more since I started using organic ground turmeric root.

edited to add...since turmeric has liver cleansing properties, and is is used in liver cleansings, perhaps this is what was/is happening to you?

Minxie -- I was interested in taking turmeric but did some reading up on it and discovered that it promotes the production of bile.  Bile is produced in the liver and stored in the gall bladder to be used in the digestive process.  My thinking is that, since you had your gall bladder removed, it must have been because it was giving you problems; perhaps you were already producing too much bile, so taking turmeric is overloading your liver?  Or perhaps you're taking too much?

My bet is that the onc will tell you to stop taking the turmeric.  Let us know!
