Re ovarian risk, there is recent evidence that the most deadly forms of OC begin in the fallopian tubes (not ovaries): http://www.pnas.org/content/109/10/3921.full So for those doing scans in the interest of early detection, it'd be important to make sure that area is covered too.
OBXK: Good to hear you're doing well. Sounds like an awesome porch party. We will join you, in spirit.
Sending a big hug to Hope and Inmate....

Sandlake-I may have asked before, but how was your recovery for hysterectomy? I am having it done on monday and am very nervous. They are doing it roboticly-da vinci I think. One night in the hospital. Is it painful? I am freaking out a bit, plus I have an accounting exam friday that I can not concentrate on studying for! I am taking 2 weeks off from my job, which I stand all day, is that enough time? Why am I freaking out so much? I guess it is in my personality.
-
Bak- wow, it sounds like your head is spinning! Try the group Hyster Sisters ( just google it) they look like they have some practical advice. I hope all goes well on your exam, and that you have a speedy recovery.

Wow..we all seems to be going through alot of crap lately....saw a couple of ladies on the beach with "new" hair...didn't have a chance to talk but the though goes through my mind that they may be on here..and walking right by me.
also very weird but while I was frying in the sun a butterfly came right up to my face and I swear to God that she smiled at me...do ya think it was LJ or someone else? Weird I know
Ah well..heading back to Ohio and real life tomorrow...blah.....
Thinking about you all often..Inmate? Hope..good to hear from you....OBX...ya that liver biopsy sounds crappy but hopefully you can get through it with minimal pain and discomfort..thinking of you!
-
Titan - I like to think it was LJ too. So glad you were able to get away and enjoy yourself.
My girlfriend has had 3 liver biopsies - she says it's not as bad as I think. -
bak, The unknown is always scary isn't it? I had very minimal discomfort after my hysterectomy. I took 3 weeks off just to be sure since my BMX was scheduled for the 3rd week after. I was doing very good the second week, but wouldn't have wanted to work that week either. (I stand all day too!) I'm glad you are taking two weeks off. It is very easy to overdue when you start feeling better, but your body will let you know when it's time to rest! The worst part was the bloated gas feeling after surgery, it last a few days for me.
Good luck with your exam Friday!
Sending you peaceful thoughts for the weekend...you can do this!
Cyndi

Titan have you been on the wine again, butterflys smiling at you lol. And what are you doing frying in the sun you know about melanoma, of course.
I might get my old fellar one of these to keep him warm!!
-
Cocker (your name is suddenly appropriate for your poster ) that was hilarious... ha ha ha!!!
Bak - good luck for your exam tomorrow.
OBXK - loved your link - priceless advice.
Peace and gentle hugs to all xx
-
Hey Cocker..my old fellar wants one of those socks..but wonders if you have enough yarn..I'm sure you do..lol...and no at the time of the butterfly I hadn't had any wine...yet...but IF it was LJ..she was probably wondering why I didn't have any wine...that girl knew how to live to be sure

Had chemo round 5 of 6 today. The last one is scheduled for November 1st and total bmx on November 19th with reconstruction and it is a drive by with only a 23 hour hospital stay. I was told the procedure should take around 4 hours. Nothing like getting gutted like a fish and then kicked to the curb. Everyone around me says wow it sure is going fast (NOT) I think it is taking forever. I really want my life back and I am starting to run out of patients. My mo told me on Tuesday to take a picture and look back 2 years from now, you will see that it was not as bad as you thought. IDK about all that!
-
Today was day 6 of rads and i've been sick since yesterday. Nausea and vomiting. They tell me it's not a SE?? I don't know what to think. I just know that i got very sick with chemo, had horrible SE's and had to have home health nurses come every other weekend for hydration.
Did anyone else experience nausea with rads?
-
CS - you post is hiliarious and Tazzy, your comment has me in stitches. Speaking of stiches, I was trying to learn to crochet so I could make a chemo cap or two for the patients. Maybe I should practice making one of these little man stock scarves
-
Titan - I have enough yarn just tell me how many inches your old fellar would need!!! And don't lie!.
On the wine Laura Jane would probably have fluttered down and helped you sip it.
Taz - that was very good never thought of that when I typed it but very apt lol.
Sugar - good idea your old fellar (that's if he is an old fellar,. all the better if he isn't) will appreciate you putting it on when you have finished it!
Tammy sounds like you may be allergic to some of the treatment. Might pay to run it by your oncologist. I feel so sorry for you I hate nausea and vomiting. Could you be nervous about the treatment (just a thought). A friend of mine was a very capable girl and could do any job assigned to her but whenever she went for an interview she would get diarrhoea and sickness all night every time. I asked my oncologist about nausea side effects before I had rads and she said no none. Hope you manage to get it sorted.
How are you today Karen. Not overdoing it I hope with allyour visitors.
Friday afternoon here so looking forward to a lie in, in the morning. Great.
Have a wonderful weekend ladies. Thinking of you all especially Karen, Hope and Inmate. Annie
-
Mine is a "younger" fellar....well, he's younger than me (he's 44).
-
Loretta - I wish had awakened from surgery and been taken to my car! Make sure someone stays with you, hospitals seem to be self serve this days and one must bring along a personal handmaiden.
Tammy - so sorry you are having such a difficult go! Do you have any phenagren? Sometimes having a small fan to blow in your face can make you feel better. I hope it goes awY soon.
Annie - love your silly sock! -
Sugar you have the face of a beautiful 30 year old so your 44 year old man will be just right but I'm not sure I have enough yarn for someone as young as him!. Well yer gotta laugh aye.

A farmer is sitting in the neighborhood bar getting soused. A man comes in and asks the farmer, "Hey, why are you sitting here on this beautiful day getting drunk?"
"Some things you just can't explain," the farmer replies.
"So what happened that is so horrible?" the man inquires.
"Well if you must know, today I was sitting by my cow milking her," the farmer begins. "Just as I got the bucket about full, she took her left leg and kicked it over."
"That's not so bad, what's the big deal?" the man asks.
"Some things you just can't explain," the farmer says.
"So then what happened?" the man asks.
"I took her left leg and tied it to the post on the left with some rope," the farmer continues. "Then I sat down and continued to milk her. Just as I got the bucket about full she took her right leg and kicked it over."
"Again?" the man asks.
"Something's ya just can't explain," the farmer repeats.
"So, what did you do then?" the man asks.
"I took her right leg and tied it to the post on the right," the farmer explains.
"So then what did you do?" the man asks.
"I sat back down and continued to milk her, and just as I got the bucket just about full, the stupid cow knocks over the bucket with her tail," the farmer says.
"Wow you must have been pretty upset!" the man says.
"Some things you just can't explain," the farmer says again.
"So then what did you do?" the man asks.
"Well I didn't have any more rope, so I took off my belt and tied her tail to the rafter," the farmer says. "In that moment, my pants fell down and my wife walked in. Like I said, some things you just can't explain." -
Bernie- DH and I enjoyed a good laugh! TY
-
CS - you are funny and too kind...I'm actually 48. Yes, I married a younger man and he'd be mortified if he knew I was talking about crocheting something like this
. -
Tammy, I suffered nausea starting about day 7 of rads. I never ralphed, but I sure used graham crackers and tea after which our treatment center offers. I kept "bags" in my car and crackers in my glovebox. I agree with obxk, if you have some anti-nausea meds, i would take them.
(hugs)

bowerl: Just curious...is the bmx your first breast surgery, or did you have a lumpectomy first, then chemo? I had a partial mastectomy in Feb., had 4 rounds of chemo, tested positive for BRCA1 mutation in July and am now looking at a bmx in February 2013 with implants. As a side note, I am waiting until Feb. 2013 because I used my 12 weeks of FMLA job protection as I was unable to work through most of my chemo. My FMLA doesn't start again until Feb. next year. Needless to say, I don't trust my employer. In fact, the oncologist who I used for a second opinion has had patients who have been "laid off" because they took personal leave after their FMLA expired (same employer).
-
Tammie-I had nausea with rads, both times that I had rads. My doc also said rads did not cause it but I strongly disagree, I am sure it was from the rads. I hope you find relief.
-
lm50- yes this will be my first surgery. I choose to do chemo first because I wanted to be able to see if it was working and I had others recommend that I go into chemo as strong as possible. My tumor measured 1.9 cm when I first found it and you had to look for it. By the time I started chemo you could see it protruding out of my chest and now the doctors cain't even find it by feel. So hopefully when they go in they will not find any thing. Regardless my bc wants to take the bad one and I want them both to go. Sorry you had to use all your time up with chemo. I have been lucky and I will only miss 7 days of work with chemo. I take the day of and the day after. I have not used any fmla but I will with the surgery. But hopefully not all of it, the doc says I should be out 6-8 weeks and I work at a school so we will have winter break in there as well. Oh and I did have the genic testing done and it came back negative.
-
Inmate - I saw this and immediately thought of you!

-
Tammie,I had nausea with my rads, also! Lasted for about 2 wks!
-
Have we heard from Dawn lately? I missed a few days of posts, ladies. She has been on my mind. I am worried about her. Good luck to the courageous ladies here who are going to have surgeries, and rads this week. Sending you hugs and prayers.
-
Lovely - she may still be hungover from her beach trip! I hope she had a great time. Dawn, we'd love to know how you are these days...post when you can.
-
Journey-I am going to blame you for my craving for tequila! It sounds sooo good right now, it counts as a clear liquid right? No more solid food allowed before my surgery. I really won't have any tequila before my surgery, but maybe sometime after to celebrate! I hardly drink at all but it really sounds good:)
-
when we were at the beach one evening my DH and I had some Pink Catawba wine...have you guys had that? If you drink alot of it we call it Pink Catawaby wine Anyway...after we drank that we went to this bar and I had a Margarita...it was in a small glass but lots of tequila....we walked back to the hotel..actually the husband dragged me back to the hotel...I just wanted to sleep in the elevator that night...lol...suprisingly enough I felt fine the next morning...whew!
I did have a weird dream that I had to have a biopsy...it was so real....
