Sorry, this isn't a game although it kind of sounds like one!  I just didn't know where else to post!

One of my oncology nurses is having a baby Monday and although I've known about this for months, it just occurred to me yesterday to knit her something (can I blame chemo brain for being so dense?).  Undecided  So I picked up some yarn and knit the first bootie last night and it's SO tiny -- maybe 2" long, max. but I think it's shorter than that.  That looks way too small even for a newborn but I haven't been around newborns in a long time!  SO... how long IS a baby's foot?  Anyone know or remember?  I know there'll be a lot of variation but I'd like her to be able to use the booties more than one day!  I'm already calculating to adjust the pattern but I'm just clueless about how long the booties should be.  Any help greatly appreciated!!  Thank you!

Depends on the baby. But as the mother of three and a child care provider may I suggest running a ribbon around the ankle of the booties to keep them on. The best booties I have ever seen/used had a crocheted line that went around the ankle and they were the only ones that stayed on. A must in Michigan where it was so freakin cold.

Must tell that when I first read this I thought it was a riddle. A babies foot is the same as everyones. 12 inches. Which weighs more a ton of feathers or a ton of bricks?

OK, I should have known better than to post here, but the smiles are more than worth it!  Thanks for the grins!  Laughing

The booties do have little straps on them so I hope that keeps them on OK.  I may just add to the length and hope that works.

    Hi Everyone,

This topic caught my eye because my nephew was born on Wednesday. His feet look about 2.5" long. So cute and small. It's hard to imagine any of us started off that way!

I think the little bootees you described sounds perfect_ what I would add is that if you're still worried about the size, it could double up as a gift bag by popping on a little chocolate bar, a weekend-size toiletry to pamper the new mum, or maybe a coin....

Aren't you kind, thinking of your nurse? Hope it all goes well
