Hi ladies its been a while. My 2.5 year check (mammo on a man..yuk)  is just around the corner and so you know that I usually post around this time.

My scar has been hurting me for a few weeks (never before) and I wonder if my nerve endings are growing back hence the pain. Its like a sore pain.

Has anyone experienced this. Will tell my surgeon when I see him. Just wondered.

Hope you are all well. I see Beesie is her usual great informative self having read a bit today.

I hope you are all winning the battle.

Love and hugs to you all

Mark

Hi Mark!  Welcome back!  Yup, I'm still here, although not as regularly as I used to be.  I often don't come by for several days and I take some extended breaks from the boards every so often.

I wish I could help with your question but I'm not sure that I have much to offer on this topic.  I have heard that it can take years for nerves to regenerate, so it could be that what you are feeling is nerves.  Or it could be that the scar is tightening up or that new scar tissue is forming and that's what's causing the pain.  I doubt very much that it's anything serious, but that doesn't mean that it isn't annoying and frustrating and just a plain old pain in the you-know-what.

Good luck with the mammo.  Fingers crossed that you make it through with flying colors again this year!

    Hi Mark --

I'm 20 months out from a mastectomy, and pretty much at the end of physical therapy -- i've really been going mostly for my (unrelated) pelvic floor problems, not the mastectomy scar; it's the same PT, and she works on the breast area as well. But when i said that i was nervous about ending because of the pelvic floor issues, she said i'm more likely to come back because of the scar than those. She says that the tissue keeps forming adhesions, even years out, causing tightness or pain or whatever. So assuming your surgeon has nothing better to add, you might look into the kind of PT called 'myofascial release'. Unpleasant while she works on me, but really helpful!
