triple neg mets to skin

Options

Hi, My Mom is 85 and very independent. She was diagnosed with triple neg, 9 of 16 nodes at age 81. She had a mastectomy with nodes removed, followed by dose dense AC/T chemo, then 32 radiation treatments. After her first chemo, she fell and broke her shoulder. Despite this, she continued with aggressive chemo treatment. She has been fine for 3.5 years, but it is back... mets to skin. CT, PET, bone scan and blood work all clear. Mom's oncologist is treating her with Xeloda -- one week on, one week off. He will probably follow 6 weeks of that with Taxol. I am having a very difficult time finding info about mets to dermis of skin. ANY info would be appreciated. Thanks for the help. Good wishes to all.

Hi Janet -- someone started a thread called "Skin mets symptoms" in the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Forum.  It looks like there's some good info there.  Here's the link:  http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/81/topic/746878?page=1#post_1798219

    Hi JanetHT,

I have had skin mets but not as a result of IBC but ER+ stage IV. On both occasions I had the mets surgically excised. I dont know if this is applicable to your mother's case. She is obviously a very tough lady to be going through this again. Prayers for you both.

Skin mets are a nasty business....I'm an IBC'er that is TN who just found out my skin mets are back this week.  Because your mom already had rads, rads probably aren't an option (and they aren't for me either).  Since we are both TN, only chemo works so they will need to find a cocktail that hits it.  Being an IBC'er means that I had skin involvement at diagnosis and I had chemo first before surgery and it cleared up my skin--so I'm praying that we find a chemo that hits it again.  Not sure if that helps...feel free to PM me anytime

    Blessings and hugs

    Carole
