My mother (50yrs) finished her breast cancer treatment (Chemo 6 rounds, mastectomy, radio) abt 8months back. Very recently she started complaninng of pain and limited movement of her arm. MRI done and looks there is a problem.

    Is this metastatis?

    Will I loose my mom?

Please reassure me that my mom will be alright.

Monika - what are her next steps? is she planning on seeing her onc?  Hopefully if it is any problem they will catch it in time to treat it effectively. I so wish i had a better answer for you.  Keep me posted.  Wishing you good thoughts.  Good luck

There are a few things it could be. Lymphedema is one. Also, after rads I had problems with range of motion in my arm even though I had gotten it back with PT after surgery.

Our thoughts immediately go to mets with every ache and pain after BC.

Best of luck. Keep us posted.

Yes, she visited the onc. Latest is - onc asked to visit a neuro surgeon and he wants to get PET done after a month's medication.

I just hope she will be perfectly fine.

Monika ~  Is your Mom on an Aromatese Inhibitor or Tamoxifen?  Limiting our estrogen, as those drugs do, seems to result in all sorts of aches & pains, so that was my first thought when I read your post.

I went through a brief period of severe, unexplained aching in first my right shoulder, then the elbow area.  There were days when I could barely lift my arm.  But it eventually went away, and I'm hoping that's what's going on with your Mom -- just an unexplained pain that will eventually resolve on its own.

What are they saying about her MRI?    Deanna

    Thanks for all the replies

It is confirmed that it is mets. She would be having radiotherapy (15). She had radio done during 1st round of treatment also.

I am wondering can mets happen within 6 months of 1st round of treatment. Or is it is the leftover of the previous one. It is somewhere near the shoulder. That is all my father could explain to me over phone.

Did anybody had this treatment done for mets? what are the chances of recurrence after this treatment.

Tell me, how do I help my mother through this tough time. How do I assure her that she will be alright.

This may have been missed during her first treatment, if it's under her arm the chances of recovery are good.  Try not to worry too much until you get the full picture although I know it's hard.

I think you can help her just by being there for her, take your lead from your Mom and is she wants to talk she'll let you know.

My best wishes to you all

    Tricia xx

Hi Monika - I am sorry your mom has mets, but many live with this for many, many years.  There is a great stage IV forum on this site where you can read about others with bone mets, and chat with them.  I don't if there is a way to tell if this is new or there from before and not seen.  I think it was probably there before and it was just hiding.  Either way there is lots of hope for her and lots of living for her to do.

talking to you guys is giving me strength. Thanks a lot.

I am trying to best to keep my mom cheerful. I asked her to start some basic yogas also.

She would be undergoing IMRT. 20 sessions. Trust the doctors and have faith in God is what we are doing.
