how long for nerves to heal?

I had a mastectomy 2 years ago and have been having a tickly feeling behind part of the scar, right next to an area that's semi-numb.  I tell myself it's just nerves healing up, but it's hard not to worry sometimes.  My cancer was non-invasive so I never had radiation or anything, and the margins were close but acceptable.  Can't help but worry, but it seems there's nothing to do except keep checking for any changes or lumps.  Anyone have any perspective on this?  Thanks.

My mother is scheduled for a mastectomy this week. Her surgeon told her that the scar ( which will be across front of her breast ) may feel numb and sensation may improve or it may not. Is this correct that the scar area may remain numb for a prolonged period of time., maybe forever ?

    Thanks !

Hi, hmr.  Yes, I think I was told it's possible the feeling may never completely come back.  I've also heard some people say it took years for their nerves to grow back after any surgery.  I hope your mom's surgery went well.

According to my doctor, nerves take years and years to grow back.

I didn't have mastectomy, but lumpectomy & wide excision. I frequently have episodes of throbbing pains, sugeon said it is the nerves but it may never completely go. She said if paracetamol doesn't work, a compress of chilli (not the kitchen sort!) often works.
