Path report negative after BM for DCIS

I am wondering if my situation is unique. I had microcalcifications and dx DCIS 2/2. They did not mention a tumor on initial path report and did not test for hormones. It was intermediate grade, solid form and it was found in 30% of the samples from the stereotactic. I got an MRI after and it came back birad 2. My GS said we did not need to so a SNB and the biopsy may have gotten it all. At the time this kind of bothered me because my husband had a "no big deal attitude". Since my mom had cancer 4 times in 23 years and I am BRCA 1 + it's a huge deal to me. Well low and behold the surgeon was right and they found no cancer. I am very grateful but am wondering if this is common since I haven't read about it on any message boards. I am getting my ovaries removed this summer and am also wondering if anyone has any advise on what else to have removed. My gyno says only ovaries and no need to do Da Vinci just lathro. Since I am positive for the gene I think this may not be enough. Thanks so much for all the wonderful support and info. I am 9 days out from BM with SNB so feel free to ask questions. Drains come out tomorrow but 2 of them still collect obout 30mls in 24 hours.

So, it seems as though your biopsy truly did get it all?  I had a bmx for dcis, too.  I was told my margins were not clear from my biopsy, so I'd need to do either lump/rads or mx.  When path came back, the biopsy had gotten all my dcis, so none was found from the surgical report on that original breast.  However, some unusual tissues (non-cancerous yet) were found in the opposite breast.

They got everything during my biopsy, suekb.  They found nothing when they did the lumpectomy.  Smile
