Has anyone had a small chip inserted into their breast to measure radiation amounts?  My surgeon asked me during my next excision if i wanted her to place one in my breast.?.. She said that her hospital was the only one in the state that has the technology in place. It seems like the more info on how much radiation my breast is receiving is good info to me and my radiologist... Anyone know of any down side to this?  It is tiny and will not set off any alarms at the airport.....

Thanks again for any feedback... Always great to hear if you have had any experience with this new technology...

I do not have experience with it and have heard only a little as it is very new.  Normally the surgeon puts metal clips in the surgical bed to help the rad onc identify the target.  The rad oncs use dosimeters on your skin surface to measure dose.  An internally implanted chip could give actual dose measurement at the site of the tumor.

I think you should talk to the rad onc before deciding, as he or she is the one who would know best just how useful it is.

    Hi Again,

Have more info on the DVS, dose verification system...DVS is a system used to measure the amount of radiation that is delivered to the tumor tissue, tumor bed (where tumor was) and/or healthy tissue.. Physicians use DVS to verify that the daily radiation dose you receive is within the prescribed dose range. The device is made by Sicel Technologies.

Would love to hear if anyone has heard of this device or is using it.... Thanks
