Wrong Diagnoses for Bone Mets?

My breast cancer recurred after 9 years, with extensive spread to the bones accompanied by hypercalcimia. The onco gave me 3-6 months of living, but excluded chemo.I was put on Femara and Zometa and after 3 months went back for another PET-CT scan. To my surprise the metabolic activity had reduced considerably to an extent of 65-70 percent, which of course was good news. We attributed this to the powers of Femara, Zometa and strict diet. However we recently showed this report to another physician (credited with great diagnostic abilities) and her opinion was that this was not mets, since mets cannot dissappear to this extent in just 3 months and it is unsual for breast cancer to recurr after 9 years. The most likely cause for this 'hypercalcimia' was oesteoporosis, and not secondary bone cancer. We are confused. There seems to be not a spot from where a single needle biopsy can be done, so that avenue is closed. Does anyone havean answer to this or has experienced such a 'phenomena'. Any views would be much appreciated.

xcetra - you'll have a better response if you post your question on the Stage IV forum. Many women there have had wonderful results with Femara and Zometa. After 2 cycles of TC (about 7 weeks), I had similar results with my wide spread bone mets. What is the second doc attributing the improvement to? Zometa? Also, there are several women on the Stage IV forum whose cancer has recurred after many years. You'll get many helpful responses on that forum. Oh - welcome to the boards, but sorry you have to be here.
