nipple infection from radiation

I completed 28 radiation sessions last Friday. When I met with my radiation oncologist, I showed him my nipple and told him I thought I had a yeast infection, because it was tender and there was a little bit of white "goop".  He said he wasn't sure, but prescribed Nystop, an anti-fungal powder. Now my nipple is very dry and sore, and even has a spot that cracked and bled a little. I'm thinking a cream might be better than a powder. Anyone else experience anything like this? If so, what did you do to help? Since my rad. oncologist didn't seem to know for sure, I was thinking about calling my gynecologist tomorrow and have her take a look at it.

I'm a little worried that this will be a continuous problem, because my lumpectomy was right under the nipple, so now it's kind of flat and inverted. The nipple doesn't really stick out like it used to. I guess the radiation irritated it.

I never got an infection, but I did get an inverted nipple from fat necrosis during radiation.  The whole areola is now grayish and shrunken.

Could be you had some fat oozing out.  They should have taken a sample for testing.
