    joycey-

I had BMX with rt. axilla dissection on 12/14/09 in which I had a slight ROM issue on the rt. arm but started to stretch and do upper extremity exercises that PT gave me to do-- ROM was improving-- Now I am currently doing RAD treatment and will be done 3/17/10.  I am noticing more ROM issues-- I believe it all has to do with Scar Tissue build up along with having rt. axilla dissection!  I am heading back to PT in a couple of weeks to see if we can break up some more scar tissue and continue with exercises.  I have already been fitted for a Lymphdema sleeve that I wear if I am doing any type of lifting or strenous activity.

I'm guessing it depends on the type of treatment you have done-- in which ROM can be an issue.  I also have hope that we can overcome ROM issue with help from PT.

Have you tried consulting with a PT?

I'm seeing a PT currently to reclaim ROM in my right arm, from having had BILAT on 1/15 this year. I went into surgery with issues already which were determined to be "frozen shoulder" (known as adhesive encapsillitis, sp??) which I'd had in the other shoulder a couple of years earlier.

In any case, if it would happen to be frozen, you'll want to get with a PT just as soon as possible, because it literally gets 'more' frozen into place, without intervention.

There's another thread on here, where those of us have spoken of these 'frozen' issues previously. I don't think that the thread has been active for a while...... I'll go and bump it back into active status. It's in the Middle-Age section, toward the bottom of the list.

Best wishes in figuring out a plan of action.

I also had no ROM issues after surgery (July 09), but as of January I began to experience pain and ROM issues. my rad onc diagnosed it as inflammation of the muscles due to rads. said it can begin 3-6 mos post-treatment. also mentioned that there is nothing to cure it, just time. I do see a medically certified massage therapist once a week, to work on the scar tissue and also to free those bunched-up, inflamed muscles as much as possible. my massage therapist is also working on getting my lymph working better...although I had no nodes removed, the radiation alone can damage the lymph system on the radiated side.

hoping you can find relief ~

Yes, I lost my ability to reach into the cupboards in my kitchen. I also got a frozen shoulder. Had physiotherapy to restore motion and losen the shoulder. Was fine after 6 weeks of physio. Incidentally, my physio said that she gets many women who need physio for this same reason and that simple exercises after each radiation treatment would help women enormously and they may not even need physio afterwards.
