I am curious to know how many of you tri-neg ladies had radiation the first time only to have a recurrence in the same breast?  I was told that the radiation would severely reduce the rate of recurrence and I want to know if it truly does.  Please post or direct me to a similar post.  Thanks for  your help.

All I can tell you is radiation worked for me. 1987 had lump. and radiation and never reoccured in that breast. Radiation back 23 years ago, was the only treatment given for node negative stage 1 breast cancer. If your nodes were negative you were given radiation only, chemo was given if the nodes were involved.

One year after diagnosis....a few months after rads and just 8 weeks after "elective" chemo to keep the monster at bay, I had recurrence but it was all outside the radiation field.  My radiation oncologist did tell me though that the chest is an area that can be radiated more than once so if there is a recurrence there it can be hit again.

    Blessings and hugs

It was not considered a recurrence because the pathology of the most recent tumors were different.  But it happened in the same breast that was radiated, close to the original location that was radiated.

I wouldn't trust rads only to beat TNBC.  I was stage 1 with no node involvement; had aggressive chemo and rads yet I had stage IV recurrence 2 years later.

I had radiation and my onc was pretty confident there would be no local recurrence but his concern was more for mets.  He was right on.  Lung met, and now mediastum/hilar (sp?), with other tests pending.   Don't mean to sound negative, but chemo starting 3/22 and I'm bummed.

Ladies, again and again and again I will stick to my guns and tell you that if you are stage 1, stage 11 and even stage 111 the majority go on to live long lives. Yes the first 2 and 3 years are a white knuckle ride and if it reoccurs and, IF it does, it usually will within that time. If you come to these boards you are going to hear of those who have re-occurances, so coming here isn't for sissy's, and we need to be here for those dear sisters to give them our support, love and prayers.
