Boy, still feels weird to say that I have an ONCOLOGIST. So, met with him today, and he actually wanted to get started on the radiation, but I want a few more days to compose and ready myself for it.  We start next Wednesday. He comes from MD Anderson Cancer Center, so I am sure I am in good hands. I am a bit nervous about this part, don't know why, but I am hopeful and sure it will progress quickly and safely.

    Peace to all of you!

MaryAnn, I'm sure it does feel weird! I'm still trying to wrap my head around that as I start my own search for a rad onc (and I guess a regular old onc too). Best wishes for your radiation! Jill

Having an oncologist still feels odd to me and I've had one for 9 months now!  My radiation experience was pretty good -- some burning and fatigue but all manageable.  I hope it is the same for both of you!

It felt really weird for me too to see an oncologist. Sitting in the waiting room, surrounded by people who looked very sick and then walking past an area where people were getting chemo was tough. It really drove it home to me that I have cancer. BUT I felt much, much better after I talked to the oncologist. He really seemed on top of everything, and knowing he would be coordinating my care and my followup gave me a huge sense of relief.  He also validated all my decisions (and it seemed important to me that came from a dedicated cancer specialist) and was very positive about my prognosis.

You're gonna be in and out of there in no time!

It is distressing to be in hosptials with so many really sick people. It gives you persepctive on your own situation. Sometimes we get all wrapped around DCIS and it doesn't hurt to have something to be grateful about.
