follow-up question please
I had an excistional biopsy for two benign papillomas and suspicious calciifications in early December. Surgeon took out three areas of severe atypical hyperplasia. They were on the fence of it being DCIS and biopsy was sent out and it came back as the ADH with lesser area of LDH. My surgeon gave me prescriptions for MRI bilaterly with contrast and a ultrsound with a follup with him in April. So I have to have this all done this month in March. I'm just starting to realize (going through perimenopause and my brain isn't all there lately) that this would only be three months since the surgery. I know that the normal followups are usually every six months with high risk ADH. I'm a little worried now about why my surgeon wants all this done only three months and not the six months . Anyone else else excisional surgery for ADH had there checkups in this short of time? Thank you ladies.

From what you have said it seems there may have been changes in your breast tissue and your doctor is being cautious. My BS described ADH as the stage before cancer. So I would get the testing done asap and try to schedule an earlier appointment with the doctor. More than likely the MRI and ultrasound can be done in one visit.

I'm getting very worried now that something will be found again even though my surgeon said he got all the area of the hyperplasia and they were all located in center of breast. Unfortunately I go to my regular place I go to for my mammo's for the ultrasound but for the Mri I go to the hospital where I had my surgery and stereo. So it's two seperate appointments. Also just got the blood work to make sure they said my kidneys are functioning well for the contrast used with the MRI. I'm also going through missing my very first period ever (besides pregnancy) and having hot flashes and not sleeping well from night sweats. I finally was relaxing a little about the ADH diagnosis and this is just adding to the anxiety.

Waiting and wondering produces a lot of anxiety and stress. Try to find some way to relieve your anxiety. Take a walk, run, exercise, dance! Do something you enjoy to help clear your mind and refresh yourself. When you are not stressed out it will be easier to think through your sitution and develop a treatment plan. Take care of yourself!

pattimay--sounds like he is just being very thorough. If you get your mammos in Sept (6 months later), you and I will be on the same schedule and can keep each other company! What day is your MRI? Mine is Mar 18th.
