Hi, all you brave and wonderful ladies. I just wanted to share this with you.

My mother was diagnosed 9/07, 22mm grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma of the left breast with 8/23 involved lymphnodes.  Her tumour is oestrogen and progesterone         receptor negative and HER2 positive.  The CT scan performed in December has revealed metastatic lymphadenopathy with enlarged lymphnodes in the left    internal mammary region and anterior mediastinal area, paratracheal region and the right axilla.  The lesion in her liver is indeterminate and she is due to have a     liver ultrasound scan next week to try and further determine its nature.  She has no evidence of active disease elsewhere.  In light of the lymphnode involvement       she would be classified as having metastatic disease She was given vinorelbine and herceptin. Luckily, she has a wonderful oncologist who approved of her taking Maitake Beta Glucan drops and Chlorophyll at the same time. She also responded well to the Herceptin It's now two and a half years and she is doing really well. She managed to hang on to her hair and her humour as well as her boob these days...in the beginning we would find it laying in various parts of the house! The japanese have used maitake for years. Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center

Scientific NameGrifola frondosaTOPCommon NameKing of mushrooms, dancing mushroom, cloud mushroom, hen of woodsTOPClinical SummaryDerived from the cap and stem of the mushroom. The active constituent is thought to be a beta-glucan polysaccharide. The whole mushroom is used primarily as a dietary element, but extracts and supplements are sold as immune stimulants for patients with HIV or cancer. While no adverse effects have been reported, some studies reveal a hypoglycemic effect following administration of maitake extract (9) (12). Maitake was shown to enhance bone marrow colony formation, reduce doxorubicin toxicity in vitro (11), and to inhibit tumor metastasis (13). In a small non-controlled study, tumor regression or significant symptom improvements were observed in half of the subjects using Maitake extract (5). In another study of postmenopausal breast cancer patients, oral administration of maitake extract was shown to have immunostimulatory as well as immune inhibitory effects (14).
Research is underway to test its anticancer effects and toxicity in humans.I hope this is helpful.
