Up until this treatment today I have dips low but never like this and I always recover. Last Wednesday they were 44,000 and on Monday they were 68,000. Onc told me they needed to be over 100,000 to get chemo today. So went in and they were 99,000. They got approval to move forward but said I could easily need a transfusion. Prior to my last treatment (on treatment day) they had risen to 220,000 so they recovered great that time.

Anyone have this happen? Curious to see what my counts are next Wed!

    Allison,

I am going through the same thing. Mine dropped to 23k. Below 20k is where my onc said we'd do a transfusion. At my next chemo I was at 83000 and we went ahead anyway. Her reasoning was with my diagnosis and so many positive nodes, delaying treatment was a bad idea.

I am curious to see what will happen this next time. I was told there really is nothing I can do to rebuild platelets - just a chemo side effect.

    Good Luck to you!!

Mine dipped a few times, but the onc said it would have to stay low and be really really low before they would do the transfusion.  Luckily mine didn't dip for too long during AC and recovered during Taxol.

SherriG, what supplements were you taking that hurt the platelest. Someone told me to take extra vitamin D. But otherwise I just take a normal vitamin. Onc wont le met take anything else.

Yes.....mine dipped and I did have to have a transfusion.......I had two or maybe three transfusions during my chemo process because I did dose dense TAC which you aren't supposed to do. Once due to platelets and at least once due to red blood cell count.

Yes, mine dipped very low, as did my red and white counts. I was hospitalized twice for neutropenia, and on both occasions I also needed transfusions. I think I got a total of six units of blood over two hospitalizations.

    Hugs and good luck!
