Hi all,

I see my onc in March for a follow up.... she does not do tumor markers or scans..although I will have an annual MRI in May.

I am on Femara and Lupron--- I had lumpectomy, chemo and radiation--clear margins, clear nodes.

so, the two things I am thinking about are Zometa and oopherectomy

My onc is  fan of zometa--I held her off in September because I was adjusting to femara and lurpon and my medically induced menopause.  The femara has been tough--muscle and joint aches---- and the menopause, well, not as bad, but my body has been through a lot.

So, I am reluctant to do zometa, mostly because I don't want to introduce any more meds to my body (until this, I never had to take any meds at all)

Additionally, at the time of dx, no one on my medical team thought that an ooph was necessary--- they actually advised against it.... and I am inclined to agree--but am always looking for thoughts and ideas from others.

So, if you have any suggestions (about zometa or ooph) I would greatly appreciate them...I want to try to do the "right " thing, whatever that is.

mom - I would do the zometa.  From what I have read, and what my onc. has told me - zometa significantly reduces recurrences.  However, I am 45 with "bones of a 30 year old" (no early osteoporosis) so my insurance company will NOT pay for Zometa as it is not standard of care for stage I.  My onc. has appealed this, so hopefully I will get it next quarter.  If not, I am considering paying out of pocket.

I was advised to have the ooph because they said there was a relationship between breast and ovarian cancer.  I read recently that if ILC mets go to the gastrointestinal, ovaries and the lining of the spine and brain.  IDC goes to the bones, lungs, and liver.  I am meeting with my gyno to discuss this but based on what I read, they are going.  One less thing to worry about.

I am sooo sick of making decisions.
