    I just received my pathology report today, and there is something I don't understand. It says the nuclear grade is I-II/III. Can someone explain what that means? I thought the grade was either I, II, or III, so I'm confused. (I was diagnosed with DCIS and had a lumpectomy in Dec. I'm in my second week of RADs.)

    My understanding of it means you are between 1 and 2 out of a possible 3. I hope this helps.

    They test each foci and you can end up with different types and grades in the same biopsy.  I had some low grade (Grade 1) but the majority of mine was grade 3, with comedo cells and necrosis.  I am assuming there were several samples to analyze out of your biopsy.  My report describes each foci in detail, size, grade etc.  Is there another section on yours that details those results?  With your lumpectomy I assume you had clean margins, so with the radiation, your treatment protocol remains the same, no matter what the grade.  If you are hormone positive you will be put on tamoxifen or an aromatase inhibitor.  Hope you continue to do well with your rad treatments.
