I was wondering if anyone was allergic to these drugs? I had chemo last year and was allergic to both of them and was unable to take them. I worry everyday about the fact that they were not given. Just hoping to hear from others that may have had this experience.

    Hi Kandy,

I had an allergic reaction to Taxol. Its not uncommon. The reaction was actually caused by the solution that the taxol is in, not the taxol itself. The solution (not sure if that is technically what it is but I figure you know what I mean), is called Cremaphor. I was able to take Taxotere instead.

I understand your feelings about not throwing every available item in the arsenal at the cancer, but try to focus on all the treatments you did have. Did you do AC and rads? Are you on tamoxifen or and AI now?

     Best to you,

    Annie

When I first went to have chemo they told me my best chance for beating the cancer was to get 6 cycles of TAC. They considered the cancer to be very aggressive. The cells were dividing 50 times faster than normal cell division. On the first treatment I immediately reacted to Taxotere, they finished out the 6 cycles with AC. Then I was premedicated to see if I would tolerate Taxol and had the same immediate reaction. They stopped that and then I got gemcitabine and vinorelbine weekly for 12 weeks. I did go on to get radiation since I had a lumpectomy and plus because of lymph node involvement. I am just concerned that it put me at even a higher risk for a recurrence now. Thanks for your responses.
