Hi, I'm Mina :)

My thoughts are all very jumbled right now, so forgive me if this post isn't as put-together as it should be. The readers digest version reads like this:

- In December, shortly before Christmas, my mother-in-law (who is so dear and close to me that I call her 'mommy' because she's the closest to a mother I have had since my ACTUAL mother passed away) felt lumps in her right breast, and went in for a mammogram.  Her doctors and oncologist have been following her since she had colon cancer 5 years ago.  Mammogram showed two spots that they wanted to exam further, so they scheduled her for a biopsy.

- In mid to late January they did her biopsy. One of the areas they checked was a (fibercystic?) cyst that had shrunk, so they weren't concerned.. the other was indeed cancerous.  They are calling it stage II.. but after some more research I've learned that there is apparently a IIa and a IIb, I don't know which hers would fall under.

- Last week she had surgery, lumpectomy. They removed a lymph node while she was in surgery.

- Today she had her follow up appointment.  Her surgical site is healing nicely, and they removed the drainage tube... BUT... they have found 'satellite tumors'   They had planned to start radiation treatments after she was healed up from surgery, but now this has changed.  Next Monday she will go back into surgery to remove the satellite tumors. If they can't get them all or if they come back, the next step will be mastectomy.

Having said all that, I am so very proud of her. Not once has has said "why me?" or "this isn't fair."  Instead all she says is "I won't let this get me down." and "it's in God's hands now."   She is obviously a much stronger woman than I am.

But.. the school system she works for is currently trying to reduce teacher aide hours to 19.5 hours a week, which means she will lose her health insurance, and I don't have to tell yall how DEVASTATING that will be for her.

This is turning out to be quite long, and I'm sorry for that. I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm looking forward to meeting others who wear the same shoes I'm in right now.. although I wish they could be better shoes.

<3 Mina
