My DH's BC/BS plan through his employer in North Carolina is also scheduled to go up in March.

It's a shame that insurance reform and healthcare have been put on the back burner.

We were late on making several payments for scans he had done ... and even though I had spoken with the hospital numerous times, they turned the matter over to the court.  We were served twice (in person and through the mail) with summons to appear regarding the $700.  Had to use the last of our Amex credit to pay the bill ASAP.

agreed.  They just raised my rate by 100.00 a month in December.  In five years they more than doubled my premium.  And I have 15K yearly out of pocket!  Can't change due to my preexisting condition.  Highway robbery!

I heard about this on NPR this morning.  One reason for the increase is their revenue is down, because their business is down, because people can't afford insurance.  So they raise the rates even higher???  Seems to me that's a vicious circle: raise rates and make it so more people can't afford insurance and drop their policies, which reduces company revenues... yada yada yada... crazy!

I think the big health ins companies know they've got us over a barrel and can do what they want.  Reminds me of Lily Tomlin's bit about Ernestine the telephone operator from back in the days of Ma Bell - "We're the phone company, we don't have to care."

They raised their prices despite making over 3 million dollar profit.  Guess there were not enough big bonus to give the CEO and other corporate big guys.

And of course Humana just laid of 2,500 employees.

750 of them in my city.

In fact, I'm in a masters class with 6 of them. All but one has been let go. Which puts an immediate halt to their masters program, since Humana was paying for it.
