I was recently diagnosed with IDC <2cm, ER+/PR+ Her2-. If you get a bilateral mastectomy and immediate reconstruction with TE/Implants what type of follow up is done to monitor you for reoccurrence...mammograms, US, MRI???

Another question for those who have IDC, are ER+/PR+ , premenopausal, and had bilateral mastectomies: were you put on tamoxifen?

Thanks.

    Hi Sling

I had an mx in Dec 09 and just started tamoxifen today. Not sure, but I don't think the type of surgery (ie. bilat, uni or lumpectomy) comes into play with regards to whether or not tamox is prescribed, but more so menopausal status.

Good question re follow up tests. I was told this week I'd be going back in 3 months for an appt with the onc but didn't ask when I'd get my next mammo or MRI....I assume it's going to be in 6 months.

    hi

you would follow up with your breast surgeon 2-3months post-op & then every 6 months for breast examination.  it's by touch & feel. no more mammo since there isn't any breast tissue to scan.

i didn't go the tamoxifen route. i chose to just get lupron injections - surpresses the ovaries.  my original diagnosis was dcis of right breast. had dbl mastectomy 10 09 09 & path report from that stated had microinvasion.  i did radiation, to be agressive..but just didn't feel tamoxifen was worth the risk. harmone therapy doesn't come til after radiation.

    good luck
