Should I demand a PET scan?

Options

Hi everyone,

I was recently dx'd with a local recur in my breast skin.  I had 2 excisions (clean margins on #2) and an oophorectomy on 2/1 (path was clear - phew!)

Upon dx, my onco had me get a bone scan, and a chest/stomach/pelvic CT scan.   I asked him about a PET scan, but he said he feels they produce too many false positives & can result in painful, unnecessary biopsies for someone like me.

My bone & CT came back clean - but I just can't help but wonder if a PET scan should be done.

I know my smartest option would be to get a 2nd opinion - and I just might - but I wanted to ask you guys what you've experienced.

Thanks very much - Juliet

They won't do it for stage I. It's not covered by insurance unless you are symptomatic. i.e...shortness or breath, pain, etc... you may end up paying for it and they run around 7 grand per scan.
