Breast Pain-nerves repairing after surgery?

Does anyone get feelings like "little electric shocks" in their breast after having bi-lateral?  I'm told it is the nerves repairing themselves after surgery.  My concern is I only feel it in the middle (breastbone area).  It seems like it should be the whole breast area & not so close to my heart.  Also, I had the bi-lateral in Nov./08 and I'm just now starting to get pain in the breast after 1 year & 2 months.  Does anyone have any thoughts on this matter?

I had my mastectomy in July and had no pain at all. I too get sudden shocks of pain but mine is more in the axilla area. It's like the "rim" of where they removed the breast tissue is lumpy and sore.  I didn't have any pain until December. I also have pain in my neck. I am hoping this is not a mets. My surgeon said it is muscular. My anesthesiologist was very rough. When I woke up from my surgery my breast didn't hurt-my neck and shoulders hurt more. I am going to se an ortho guy. I hope he doesn't feel lumps.

The little electric shocks are your nerves growing back.

I had my second mastectomy May 17 2010, and it was on my left side; I have really bad chest pains sometimes in that area and that shoulder area esp when I lay down at night.  I had the expander put in and yesterday went for my first injection of saline(in the expander).  I talked with my PS(who also did my tramflap reconstruction in 2006).  He said the pain is related to the expander and the nerves and scar tissue.  But I'm like you, I can feel it in the middle bone(heart area).  It is scary at times...  I didn't have this experience with the other breast, so I guess his explaination about the expander is correct.

I want to thank everyone for commenting on my thread.  I wish you all well.  I too had neck & shoulder pain.  Don't be afraid to address anything different or strange to your doctors.  I have just been told I have lung cancer in both lungs that stemmed from the breast cancer.  I had a clear x-ray in Aug.2009 & now 10 months later have the lung cancer.  Looking back over the months, I was dismissing my aches & pains.  I should have paid more attention.  I just thought I was tired & on my feet too long & that was causing the pain.  I also was getting up in the night sometimes feeling like I couldn't breath & would actually open the door to outside to catch my breath.  (That only happened a couple of times, so I really didn't think it was much at the time).

    Hi mrbr2,

My surgeon gave me Gabapentin for nerve pain.  It is an anti seizure drug and they don't know why it works but it does without se.  I started on 300mg but it makes me sleepy so I take 100mg and it works great.             Darla

I definitely experienced this symptom after my double mastectomy.  It started on the right side and it is a weird sensation, almost like a spasm.  Then it started on the left side.  If it had started on the left side first, I would have sworn it had something to do with my heart, but knowing that this happened on the left side first, eased my mind.    Nancy
