Super Scared
When I was dngs diagnosed I had a mugascan, mri and ct of liver, lungs and abdomen.
They came back clear.
So today I get a callfrom Duke wanting to schedule a bone scan and a pet scan.
I had just talked to my doc 3 weeks ago asking her if I could wait on these tests until treatment was done. The reason being is b-ing a) my treatment wouldn't change 2) I just had a baby-don't want any false positives.
She agreed but I guess she forgot b-c someone from scheduling called me today. Anyway, I told the scheduler that I wasn't getting them until treatment was done. Next thing I know I get an automated email saying they scheduled me in.
So, I call my doctor and get the pratictioner-she says that looking at my notes their is nothing alarming but scans are just routine procedure.Anyway, I am wondering if my doctor changed her mind. I see her tommorow. I so dont want this test done right now but I am afraid she will force me to. I was so happy knowing it would be 3 months before I had to have this done. I am so scared and upset and wondering what the heck. I feel like I have no control over anything.

Breathe. You are in charge. It is your body and your doctor can reccommend the tests now, but it is your decision. When you see her tomorrow ask her why she isn't waiting as you discussed with her earlier. My bet is that since it is standard procedure to schedule them now that they were scheduled because the Dr. forgot to note the change in your file.
If she has a valid reason for changing her mind and wants you to have them done now she needs to explain. It is still your decision though.
Keep us posted. I will be thinking of you tomorrow. HANG IN THERE! Cancer sucks. It creates such a rollercoaster of emotions in all of us and you are especially vulnerable to that now since you just had your baby. Try to relax tonight; whatever way you can. A bath, a backrub....whatever will help you to relax.

Hi Pure,
Wanted to begin by saying what a great person you are and how I have enjoyed seeing your pics of your beautiful family. Your post have made me feel so much better on days when I was down.As far as your test, I know how scary they are. Not sure if I am wrong, but I think the bone scans are to see if you have osteoporosis( at least that was the case for me)
I had the PET scan and its not so bad. Have to sit there for a while. Then its over quickly.
Sending you lots of hugs
Pam

It sounds like a routine scheduling of the appointments and miscommunication. I'm guessing the person you talked either told you what you wanted to hear, then completed "her job" by making the appointment and moving on. Or.............. same scenario, but she didn't want to take the time to talk to the doctor and scheduled the appointment anyway, leaving it up to you to handle.
Take a deep breathe in..................now blow out and do it again until you start to relax. Look over at Killian and think good thoughts................Then remember that the person you talked to probably doesn't know much about your case other than she was told to schedule an appointment, which is more than likely an error based on your conversation with the doctor. Print the email and bring it to the appt tomorrow and talk to the doctor.

My understanding of all these tests and procedures is so they have a before and after look at what everything looked like prior to treatment, versus after.I had them all done, then they did them again when i finished chemo.Just had them done again since it's been a year since i finished chemo.

Yeah, it sounds like they're just going through the usual motions. I'm sure it can all be cleared up tomorrow. It's your body, your treatment. You really are in charge.

Pffft, one of the many frustrations dealing with dr. offices. They are so used to doing things a certain way that they probably didn't even read the dr's notes. OR the dr didn't make the note. Like the others have said..you are in charge. It's OK

-
I'll just add to what the others said - I'd say it is just miscommunication. You will get it sorted out today, no-body can make you do anything if you don't want it.
-
I hope not-I am leaving now to to go to chemo and get my first zometa. Wish me luck:)
Thanks for your feedback and support. When I got that call I was taken back to when I was first told-all the fears came back. I had a very sleepless night filled with tears. Why does this have to be so flippin hard.

Hope your chemo went well.
The doc can only suggest you have the scans. The scheduling thing was probably a mixup. If she'd had reason to suspect there was a problem after you were there i think she would have called & not just had you scheduled.
