5 Post Limit?
Why am I getting an error message saying my account can not post more than 5 times in a 24 hour period? Is it cause I'm new? I know I've seen other ladies post more than 5 times in a day.
Thanks,
Sharon

Hey pupfoster....There is a 5 post limit on newbies...once you reach 50 posts there is no limit. I'm not sure why, but someone will probably be along shortly to explain it.

Hi, Sharon,
It's because we've had spammers who have posted dozens of messages all at once and clogged the boards with garbage, some of it unspeakable. So the 5-post limit for newbies protects us all from that sort of horror.
Still, it's a hard thing to be new, with lots of questions, and not be able to post as needed, and I'm so sorry about that.
I believe you can still send private messages, so if you have specific questions of anyone you can approach them that way. We've also had newbies who have private-messaged agreeable old-timers and they've posted the message for them.
Either way, take heart -- you'll soon be posting away without these pesky limits. Wishing you a safe, healing journey!
Hugs,
Binney -
Sharon, I know it absolutley SUCKS and the whole "reason" they claim they are doing it is bogus and makes it that much worse. There is NO GOOD reason to limit new posters to 5 posts a day for until 50 posts. Sorry Binney there are other ways they could do this and other limits they could impose that wont' mess with newbies.
The time when you are most vulnerable emotionally and the most in need of connection is the early part of this whole damn "journey."
It's very demoralizing to have questions and the need to connect and get that freaking POST LIMIT warning.
I hope that they (the administrators of this site) think long and hard about how demoralizing it is and figure out a kinder and gentler way to prevent spam. This way doesn't work and only ticks people off who are already on the edge and barely holding on.
But you can Private Message people with no limit, so if you find a few people with whom you connect, go ahead and Private Message them. I'm sure they won't mind.
In the meantime, hang in there, it's "only" 10 days. . . . **insert eye-roll smiley here**

Pupster, if you want to post anything to the group, pm me and I will post if for you! Iagree, the rule does not work.

Well, a prime example happened yesterday.......someone came in and posted trying to sell a book they wrote. Fortunately he could only post 5 times. Unfortunately newbies suffer because of people like that who come to these boards.
Take heart Sharon. Don't give up. You'll soon be able to post all you want. Please feel free to PM me with any questions you have and where you'd like it posted until you can post as much as you need. I would be more than happy to help you out.
These boards do offer a wealth of information. Stay with us.
Gentle hugs.

I believe that what actually led to the adoption of the "5 post limit" rule was the presence of spammers who used bots to completely take over the board by automatically posting 100s of obscene posts within seconds. The entire board was overrun by these posts - there were pages and pages of them on every forum - making the board effectively unusable for days. Within hours of the posts being removed, it would happen again. Over and over and over. The spammer even posted gleefully telling the moderators that there was no way to stop his activity (I assume it was a "he"). I believe that this is when the 5 post limit was put into effect and it effectively stopped this activity.
This can easily happen again so I fully support a limit on the number of posts by anyone who is newly registered. Whether this limit should be 5 posts a day or 10 posts a day probably doesn't matter. If the limit remains at 5 posts, then I do think that 10 days is too long..

Beesie, I DO remember those days.
(Edit to correct my spelling.)

Sharon,
Just send a private message ("PM") to the Moderators and they will lift the 5 post-limit. To send a PM, go to "Private Messages" and create a new PM, addressed to "Moderators", type your message like you would an email, and send it. Melissa is usually very responsive and has made it clear that she will lift the restriction upon request (assuming you are clearly not a spammer, of course!)

The 5 posts isn't too bad if they would make it more obvious to the newbies. One positive effect is to get the newbies to read what is already here. There isn't a whole lot of new if many would take the time to read what is already here. I wouldn't want to go back to the mess of the spammers.
-
I think they need to have the rules clearly written down somewhere (which they are not), as it is very frustrating (at a time when you are already frustrated enough!). If a person just knew going in that there was a 50 post limit until you reached 50, it would be fine.
-
Oops, it should have said '5 posts", not 50-Freudian slip!
-
THANK YOU LADIES!!!! I can see how the spam attacks would be a problem. How incredibly insensitive and sick is that? Those people must truly be sick with a capital S. It would be nice though if it was explained better in the error message or in the Community Rules, but then that might give the sickos too much information to work with. Anyway, I'm probably closing in on the 10 day thing here soon.
Thanks again,Sharon

When I got to the 50th post, it still wouldn't let me post more than 5 times; so I contacted the moderators, and they were very nice about getting the 'ban' lifted.
-
Hi All,
I think that it is a good idea to let the newbies know of this automatic rule. I also agree that we should cut it way down. This rule has become a lifesaver on the boards though, reducing our spam incredibly. Sorry for the inconvenience. Also, I made some changes, so try posting again....

Can anyone tell me why I am unable to post anything new under any of the forums. I can reply to peoples comments but not post something new. I know there is a 5 post minimun in 24 hours, but I have not been able to post anything under any forum.
Thanks
